Prof. C. Edwards graduated in 1987 with a degree in Mathematics from Warwick University. He was awarded a PhD in Control Engineering from Leicester University in 1996. From 1996- 2012 he was a member of the Control Group at Leicester University led by Prof Ian Postlethwaite.

His current research interests are in sliding mode control and observation. He is the author of over 325 refereed papers (including 100+ journal papers) and three books. He is currently vice-chair of the IEEE technical committee on Variable Structure Systems.
